Bajau - Best divers in the world can stay up to 5 minutes underwater and as far as 20 meters deep!

Meet the Bajau fishermen. Sometimes known as the sea gypsies of Malaysia and Indonesia, these people are known for being extremely skilled divers.

BBC's Human Planet followed Bajau's fisherman Sulbin and registered his diving techniques and lifestyle off the coast of Borneo (Southeast Asia). Sulbin is able to stay up to 5 minutes underwater!

BBC's report also looks into the impacts of such a lifestyle on the human body as well as analyzing how the Bajau people's body types enhances their swimming/diving capabilities. One example is that their children can see underwater twice as better as european children can. Their eyesight is better but, on the other hand, they do lose on hearing as children's eardrums suffer early rupture due to intense diving.

By the way, believe it or not, Sulbin is a heavy smoker..!? He says it "relaxes his chest."

Either way, a very interesting story that shows how amazing the human body reacts due to training, environment, and lyfestyle. Here are the links for the article both in English (BBC) and Portuguese (Globo). The english version comes with a video.
